First of all, apologies for not posting here in a while. It’s been a crazy couple of months.
Now for the news: I have decided to leave my current job at Mindset Digital to start my own company. Today (5/25) is my last day.
The new company is called Media Toybox (we’ll add the LLC sometime next week). For now it’s just me, although the plan is to add more awesome people as I find more awesome work. (If that’s you, on either count, please get in touch. I’d love to hear from you).
The company will provide content strategy (stuff like information architecture, workflow design, market research, product development, etc.), WordPress design and development, social media strategy and execution and general consulting services. While we’ll be specializing in news and media companies, we’ll also take on some small to mid-sized business and nonprofit clients when it makes sense to do so. We’re going to be based in Columbus, Ohio for now, but taking on clients from all over the place.
Starting next week most of my time for the next couple of months will be consumed by a very cool project I’m working on with the Investigative News Network (more on that to come).
Most of all I’m really excited to get to work building cool stuff and pushing myself to learn new things every day.
I’ll miss my co-workers and clients at Mindset Digital, but over the past couple of months I’ve increasingly come to realize that working to support and sustain high quality journalism is what I want to be doing right now.
It’s going to be a good time. And I promise to be better about sharing the experience on this blog (really, I promise).
If you’re interested in working with me (or know someone who might be) please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
And of course you can follow Media Toybox on Facebook and Twitter (I promise not to be a spammy jerk) until I get a proper website up.
Congrats on the big step! Definitely keep me in the loop if you start bringing in more people—sounds like a pretty awesome venture.
